About Tech Digest

ECU Technology Digest is an electronic publication sent to all university faculty and staff.

The Digest informs you of new technologies implemented on campus, upcoming training opportunities and provides a compilation of important service announcements about scheduled e-mail, network, academic and administrative computing interruptions and downtime.

FRIENDLY REMINDER: ITCS Technology Survey

What do you think about campus technology services and resources like SharePoint, CommonSpot, MailMarshal, and others? Are there technologies that you're not currently using but would like to begin using in the upcoming year that are not yet supported on campus? What kinds of software do you need that the university doesn't currently offer?

Please respond to the ITCS Faculty and Staff Technology Survey as soon as possible. The survey should only take about 10 minutes, and your survey responses are completely confidential and anonymous.

Update: SPSS and SAS Statistical Software

SPSS

Faculty, staff and students using SPSS statistical software may have heard that a new version with additional features was recently released! We will be thoroughly testing SPSS 16 to ensure compatibility with various PC and Mac operating systems.  We want to make transitioning to SPSS 16 a smooth process for you, and will share additional information as soon as our testing process is complete and we are offering support for the new version.

Note: Most Windows users currently have SPSS 15.0 installed. If you happened to install the SPSS 15.0.1 patch from the SPSS Web site, you will also need to install the SPSS 15.0.1.1 patch to fix a number of software bugs. This patch can be downloaded from the SPSS Support Web site once you've registered for a personalized ID.

SAS
A new license code for SAS and SAS Jmp will be released soon, and current users will begin receiving notices about the expiration of SAS 9.1.3 license codes. Don't panic! The expiration isn't until December 31, 2007 and SAS allows a 30-day grace period so you can continue to use your software. We are awaiting receipt of new license codes, and will distribute to SAS users as soon as possible.

More Information:
Please contact Gloria Schwartz (328.9129; schwartzg@ecu.edu ) if you have any questions or need assistance with SPSS or SAS.

Lab administrators with questions about the new versions of SPSS and/or SAS can contact Phillip Allen (328.9543; allenp@ecu.edu ).

New "personal.ecu.edu" Directory Creation Process

In the past, a personal ECU Web directory with 50mb of space has been automatically created for each university faculty, staff and student with an active e-mail account.

Beginning spring semester 2008, personal Web directories will no longer be automatically created; rather, any individual interested in having such a directory will need to submit a personal Web site directory* request form through the Online IT Help Desk.

To submit a request form: Go to http://help.ecu.edu >> Click Submit Online Request >> Online forms are in the left menu.

For more information on using your personal Web directory, visit www.ecu.edu/itcs/personalserver.cfm.

*Personal Web directories will remain 50mb.
