Leadership Studies

The leadership studies minor is a multidisciplinary program designed to provides opportunities for students to study leaders and leadership concepts that are applicable to leadership in a variety of contexts. The leadership studies minor complements any academic major and provides formal learning experiences that can be supplemented by additional campus and community leadership experiences as part of the leadership development process. The minor requires a minimum of 24 s.h., and courses may not count simultaneously toward the student’s major and the leadership studies minor.

The Leadership Studies Minor is housed within the Harriot College of Arts and Sciences. Faculty members in departments from a number of colleges and schools at East Carolina University offer courses that allow the student to tailor the minor to your particular interests. One or more courses are offered each semester across a range of topics related to leadership studies.

This program is not a "turn-key" leadership program, but rather provides an academic study of leadership. Students should supplement their academic study with leadership experiences available both on-and off-campus. Leadership positions in student organizations and leadership training programs offered by the Division of Student Life are important ways for students to obtain practical leadership experiences. The Leadership Studies Program collaborates with the Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement to promote these opportunities for students.
