Division of General Internal Medicine
The General Internal Medicine physicians provide primary care for adult patients. This care occurs in eastern North Carolina and at the regional tertiary care facility, the Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Inpatient and outpatient services range from simple and uncomplicated treatment of individuals with a single disease or condition to individuals with complex and interrelated conditions.
The full spectrum of training opportunities for medical students and residents occurs virtually every month. Clinical rotations in general medicine expose students to both the great challenges and the greater opportunities in the practice of medicine.
All physicians are board-certified and are faculty members at the ECU School of Medicine. Basic information about this division can be obtained at 252.744.4633.
Research activities include development of the hospitalist specialty, warfarin/Coumadin and heparin therapy, literacy in the treatment of diseases, gout, end-stage renal disease, medical education and quality-of-care.
