Maria C. Clay, Ph.D. Dr. Maria Clay was named interim chair of the Department of Medical Humanities in September 2008. A professor of family medicine, director of clinical skills assessment and education, and co-director of the Office of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Education, Clay has been at ECU since 1991. In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Clay also teaches Interdisciplinary Rural Health courses for the IRHE program and the Master’s in Public Health and is an adjunct faculty member in the College of Education. She received her doctorate in Adult Education and Organizational Development from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1990.
