Mrs. Debbie Metcalf's primary research areas include strategies that improve access to the curriculum for students with exceptionalities, co-teaching models, alternate assessment models for diverse learners, and electronic portfolio development and training preservice teachers. She works in partnership with Pitt County Schools as an instructor in the ECU/PCS Summer Learning Center for students with special needs. In addition, she works with National Board Certification candidates in the Clinical Schools Network. Mrs. Metcalf shares her position at ECU with Pitt County Schools where she teaches and conducts action research. Some of her publications/presentations in collaboration with ECU colleagues include: The Evolution of a Process Portfolio as an Assessment System (Journal of Teacher Education) and Strategies to Improve Access to the Curriculum and Prepare Students with Exceptionalities for Statewide Assessment (Council for Exceptional Children).
