Spring 2007 Distance Education Courses at HHP

College of Health and Human Performance Distance Education Courses open to ECU Students, Spring 2007 (please check ONE STOP for current availability):

DRED 2000.  Introduction to Driver and Traffic Safety Education (3) P: Valid driver’s license.  Current concepts in driver and traffic safety education.

DRED 2330:  K-12 Safety Education (3).  Comprehensive look at safety education as related to K-12 students.  Emphasis on traffic, home, school, work, and recreational safety.

DRED 3320, 3321.  Laboratory Programs in Driver and Traffic Safety Education (3,0)  2 lecture and 2 lab hours per week.  P: DRED 2000 and a valid \driver’s license.  Theory and practice of dealing with multiple car driving range, simulation, and on-street lab programs in driver education.  leach student responsible for teaching a beginning student the lab phase of driver education.

NOTE:  The distance education Driver and Safety Education Add-on Licensure (for licensed teachers) requires 12 s.h. that includes each of the above DRED courses.

EHST 5001 - SEMINAR IN ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH (1) Student, staff, and guest speakers on current research.

EHST 5164 - RADIOLOGICAL HEALTH FIELD OPERATION (1) Field observation of radiological health physics, practices at nuclear fuel cycle facilities, and government nuclear facilities.

EHST 2110.  Introduction to Environmental Health Science (3) Principles of environmental health practices.  Emphasis on air quality, food supply, industrial hygiene, and sold and hazardous waste disposal.

EHST 6010 - FUNDAMENTALS OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH (3) Effects of environment on human health. Focuses on rural environment. Consideration given to water supply and wastewater disposal, water quality, solid and hazardous wastes, air quality, occupational health and safety, food protection, and vector control.

EHST 6203 - Independent Study (3)

EHST 6700 - INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE APPLICATION (3) Principles of evaluating and controlling work environment. Emphasis on resolving occupational health problems.

EXSS 3545 - PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS (2) Emphasis on selection of materials and presentation methods to be utilized with physical education in grades K-6. Satisfies EXSS requirement for elementary education. Not open to EXSS majors.

EXSS 3600 - COACHING THEORIES (2) Coaching as profession. Ramifications for coaching responsibilities.

EXSS 6001 - ADMINISTRATION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND ATHLETICS (3) Administrative process in physical education and athletics from elementary school through college.

EXSS 6133 - SPORT MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS (3) Consumer behavior trends and contemporary marketing principles related to sporting events of various competitive levels, public and private sport organizations, and sport equipment and products. Historical overview of sport marketing.

EXSS 6803 - Special Topics in Exercise Science (3)

EHST 6800 - ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM MANAGEMENT (3) Knowledge and practice in planning, developing, and managing environmental health programs. Application of current management practices toward solutions of environmental health problems.

HLTH 1000 - HEALTH IN MODERN SOCIETY (2). Mental, social, and physical health problems related to man's internal and external environments in technological and leisure-oriented societies.

HLTH 1900 - INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH PROFESSIONS (3) Survey of health professions including the process for successful entrance into health professional schools or graduate programs.

HLTH 3244 - PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES IN HEALTH FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (2) Class organization, principles, and practices associated with health education at elementary level. Required of all elementary education majors.

HLTH 3244 -  Practices and Procedures in Health for Elementary School (2).  Required of all elementary education majors.  Class organization, principles, and practices associated with health education at the elementary level.

HLTH 4991 - HEALTH EDUCATION AND PROMOTION INTERNSHIP (12) Professionally-supervised learning experience.

HLTH 6011 - INTRODUCTION TO EPIDEMIOLOGY (3) Overview of principles of epidemiology, including major epidemiologic study designs, measures of association, clinical trials, bias, confounding, and other topics.

HLTH 6100 - INTERVENTION STRATEGIES FOR HEALTH EDUCATION (3) Existing research concerned with methods/strategies utilized by health educators.

HLTH 6200 - PROGRAM PLANNING AND EVALUATION IN HEALTH EDUCATION AND HEALTH PROMOTION I (3) Fundamentals. Emphasis on developing skills in needs assessment, instrument construction, and program proposal development.

HLTH 6355 - ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, AND OTHER DRUG EDUCATION AND PREVENTION (3) ATOD abuse education and prevention theory and approaches.

HLTH 6400 - MANAGEMENT OF HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS (3) Administrative aspects of health education in variety of settings. Program planning, implementation, evaluation, budget and fund raising, and role of government and private agencies for leadership in health education.

HLTH 6500 - INDEPENDENT STUDY (3) Investigation of current research and methodology in health education.

HLTH 6990 - INTERNSHIP IN HEALTH EDUCATION (3) Supervised observation and practice in health education setting.

RCTX 5000. Theoretical Foundations of Aquatic Rehabilitation (3) Examines treatment principles in aquatic rehabilitation environment.  Develop understanding of benefits, contraindications, and use of aquatic therapy to address needs of participants with specific health conditions.
