Welcome from the Dean of HHP
Dr. Glen GilbertWelcome to the electronic view of the College of Health & Human Performance. We are very proud of the faculty and staff from the departments that comprise our college. Thanks to the support of the institutional leaders and donors, we continue to improve the quality of our teaching, service, and research environment. We now have ten fully equipped smart classrooms that offer access to multimedia and the Internet through quality projection and sound systems, computers, and VCRs built into each room. All other HHP classrooms have access through portable systems. You will find we offer fine research facilities and both undergraduates and graduate students are encouraged to participate. We have added a small but well equipped new building for education and research, the Fitness, Instruction, Training and Testing building (FITT), next to Minges. Thanks to a donation from alumni, Bob Basnight, Jim Post and Mike Bunting, we have an outside academic area adjacent to Minges for use by classes or students in between classes and two well-equipped seminar rooms.  Both Minges and Christenbury are wireless areas.   We continue to develop a total learning environment
Please take time to become familiar with the depth of opportunities found in our college. Faculty are leaders in research, teaching and service for the region and nation. You will find WEB sites illustrating faculty contributions research laboratories and our many service opportunities. We believe in meeting the needs of the community and you will find many examples of applied research that seeks to expand the knowledge and applications that will enhance eastern North Carolina and beyond. The mission of the college is clear and the vision is for the faculty and students to have the best possible equipment and opportunities within an environment of intellectual stimulation. Creating this culture is our quest and we hope you will join us.

Soon the departments of Health Education & Promotion and Recreation & Leisure Studies will move into the newly refurbished Belk building, which will significantly upgrade our facilities.

Thank you for visiting our electronic home. We are eager for you to see why we are so proud of the many contributions of East Carolina faculty and students and why the future is the focus of our present.

Glen Gilbert, Ph.D.
Professor & Dean
