Piratedrive Storage & Retrieval

Piratedrive Information

Storage

Piratedrive storage is provided for faculty, staff and student use only. Personal disk space is typically referred to as the "U" drive, because a "U" drive is mapped to the home folder for each user logging into the INTRA domain. The "U" drive folder name is the same as users' PirateID. Faculty and staff are urged to use their "U" drive to back up important files currently being saved on campus workstations. The "U" drive is not intended to serve as a location for back up an entire PC, only critical files. Students are reminded that Piratedrive is not a place to store music, games, etc. Users may be asked to remove non-academic files even while still below their quota limit. ITCS will notify staff and ask that files be removed by a specific date. If not removed, pending an investigation by IT Security, ITCS reserves the right to remove files that do not conform to official university policies.

Faculty and Staff 1 GB
Students 50 MB
Departments 5 GB

Quotas

Requests for additional storage must be made through the ECU Help Desk (328-9866 or by logging at request at http://help.ecu.edu) for review. Only requests deemed appropriate by ITCS will be approved for an increase at no cost.

Faculty and Staff: Faculty and staff quotas can be increased to 1GB if the need is demonstrated and approved. Should faculty and staff need more space than allocated, individual departments may purchase additional space. An account code must be provided to ITCS.

Students: Student quotas may be increased up to 100 MB if the need is demonstrated and approved. Students needing space for research projects and other academic functions will be given special consideration.

Departmental File Storage: Requests for additional storage must be made through the ECU Help Desk (328-9866). There is a cost associated with additional storage. An account code must be provided to ITCS.

Data Retention

Piratedrive data is backed up nightly and backup copies are retained in accordance with the service level agreement (SLA) for platinum level systems. In addition, a monthly backup will be maintained for 12 months. It is the responsibility of the individual user to maintain their HIPAA data for a period of 7 years to conform to HIPAA regulations. Image snaps are taken daily and retained for 7 days. This allows for user initiated restore of data deleted within 7 days. All other data restores should be directed to the Help Desk at 328-9866. For data that needs to be retained longer than 1 year, the department should make arrangements for data retention.
