A. The Music Library's collection contains several types of restricted and unrestricted circulating materials:
1. Books.
2. Scores: Printed music for either study or performance.
3. Media Materials: Audio, audio/visual, and software materials.
4. Reserve Materials: Materials designated by professors and teaching assistants for in-house use only. See the Music Library Reserve Collection Policy for more information.
5. Reference Items: Print and non-print materials in the reference collection, bound journals, and call numbers M1-M3 restricted to in-house use only.
6. Microforms: Materials in micro formats, such as microfiche and microfilm.
7. Special Collections: Materials restricted due to their unique and/or historical value.
8. Audio-Visual Equipment.
9. Laptops.
* Please note that any of the above materials housed in closed stack areas must be checked out to the requesting patron when the items are handed across the circulation desk. This applies regardless of whether the item must be used in-house or is allowed to be taken from the library.
A. Undergraduate Students, Cooperative Borrowers, and Educator Card holders
1. Books and Scores: 28 days. 3 renewals.
2. Media materials: 7 days. 3 renewals.
3. Reserves: 2 hours in-house use only. No renewals.
4. Reference: Do not circulate.
5. Microforms: Circulate with special permission. No renewals.
6. Special Collections: 2 hours in-house use only. No renewals.
7. Audio-Visual Equipment: 12 hours. No holds; no renewals.
8. Laptops: circulate as per Joyner’s policy.

B. Graduate Students

4. All other materials: In-house use only. Must provide photo I.D. in order to use closed stack materials.
5. Special Collections: 2 hours in-house use. No renewals.
G. Interlibrary Loan
1. Books and Scores: 35 days. 1 renewal.
2. Media Materials: 35 days. No renewals. LPs and DVDs do not circulate.
3. Reserves: Do not circulate. Will photocopy sections.
4. Reference: Do not circulate. Will photocopy entries.
5. Microforms:
a. Theses and dissertations: 35 days. 1 renewal.
b. Journals and other titles: Do not circulate. Will photocopy articles.
6. Special Collections: Do not circulate. Will photocopy if possible.
7. Audio-Visual Equipment: Does not circulate.
8. Laptops: Do not circulate.
9. Checkout Limit: No limit.
A.All patrons may put a hold request on an item that is checked out to another patron. This is done by filling out a hold form at the circulation desk. When the item is returned, the hold requester will be notified.
B. Only ECU faculty, staff, and students may put a recall request on an item that is currently checked out. The item will only be recalled after the current borrower has had the item for one check out period, or 28 days, whichever is shorter. If an ECU faculty member or teaching assistant wants to put a currently checked out item on course reserve, the item will be recalled immediately regardless of the length of the check out period.
C. When recall and hold items are received from the current patron they are held at the Circulation/Reserve desk for a period of one week. Items not checked out by the requesting borrower within one week will be reshelved.
A. General Information
1. Fines and fees may be paid with cash, check, ECU One Card Gold Account, and Visa or MasterCard credit cards.
2. Overdue fines will accrue until a maximum of $10.00 per item is reached.
3. Faculty and Staff borrowers are not charged overdue fines.
4. Area Resident borrower fees are $15.00 per year.
B. Overdue Fine Rates
1. Books and Scores: $ 0.25 per item per day.
2. Media Materials: $1.00 per item per day.
3. Reserves: $1.00 per item per hour.
4. Audio-Visual Equipment: $5.00 per item per hour; $50.00 limit.
5. Laptops: as per Joyner’s policy.
C. Lost and Damaged Materials
1. Books that are lost or returned to the library damaged are charged to the borrower. The Preservation & Conservation department staff has responsibility for determining whether a damaged item can be repaired or must be replaced.
2. Fees
a. Replacement: Current list price plus $20.00 processing fee. If the item is later returned in good condition, the patron will be issued a refund for the list price portion of the fee.
b. Repair: Bindery charge of $10.00 plus $20.00 processing fee.
A. Any library user's borrowing privileges will be suspended if:
1. the library user owes fines or fees in excess of $ 5.00.
2. the library user owes fees for an item that has been lost or damaged while on loan.
3. a check from the library user for payment of any library fees or services is returned to the Library Security Office as un-payable.
4. the library user neglects to return a recalled item within 14 days of notification of recall.
5. the library user has overdue items.
B. Student university records may be tagged, preventing registration or release of university transcripts, for any of the above.
C. Borrowing privileges for faculty members may be suspended if the faculty member has one or more items overdue for more than one semester.
