Finding Books:
From the library homepage, go into the Catalog, and begin with a "General Keyword" search.
Examine the book record for citation information, subject headings, collection and call number, and sometimes, chapter titles.
You can also click on the hyperlinked Subject Headings within a book record to find out approximately how many books in the library use that same term for description.
Search Tips:
Boolean operators:
AND: narrows by combining terms
OR: expands by allowing choice
NOT: narrows by excluding terms
Other Search Tips:
* searches any variant spelling (child* will find child's, children, children's, etc.)
? replaces any single character ( wom?n will find women or woman)
The catalog DOES NOT search determiners (a, the, an) or prepositions except in phrases.

ERIC: One of the two primary databases for education research, ERIC is a US government publication with a range of publications including journal articles and lesson plans.
Academic Search Premier About Academic Search Premier: Provides information on a wide range of academic areas including business, computer science, engineering, social sciences, humanities, linguistics, science, education and multicultural topics. It features full text for more than 4,500 journals, and indexes about 8,000 journals including nearly 7,000 peer-reviewed. In addition to indexing and abstracts, searchable references are provided for more than 1,000 journals in the collection. Years of Coverage: 1975 - Current
ProQuest Research Library: This multidisplinary database includes an Education Module and many fulltext articles.

Kraus Curriculum Development Library: The Kraus Curriculum Development Library is a searchable database of curricula, frameworks, and standards that brings together educational objectives, content, instructional strategies, and evaluative techniques for all subjects covered in PreK-12 and Adult Basic Education. Includes over 30,000 pages of text submitted by educational agencies in PDF format.
Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts (LLBA): LLBA provides abstracts and indexing on topics related to all aspects of linguistics, including especially for this class, English language learners.
Modern Language Association International Bibliography (MLAIB): The MLAIB is the primary index for the study of English language and literatures. Use the MLAIB through Literature Online in order to combine indexing with the Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature and to have access to some fulltext articles.
PsycINFO: This database includes articles on teaching and learning (and is particularly strong in language acquisition), and contains a variety of document types, from journal articles to empirical research.
If It's Not Full Text: Find It!
This new software will help you find out whether the library has a print or electronic copy of an article from some databases. When you choose a citation from among your results, click on the button to generate a menu of options. Listed at the top are any databases which will lead you to an electronic copy. Further down the list is a link leading to the Joyner catalog, for you to search for print copies.
Citation Linker: If you already have a citation from someone else’s bibliography and want to find out if we have that article, key it into the Citation Linker. When you click the Find IT! Button at the bottom of the page, you will generate a menu of options that works like the one described above.
Educator's Reference Desk: This new site takes the place of AskERIC and is a project of the Information Institute of Syracuse. It includes the 2000 lesson plans, 3000 value-added pointers to education information & organizations, and 200 question archives that were accessible at askeric.org for over 10 years, as well as continued free access to the ERIC database.
