Collection Development is responsible for allocating the library's acquisitions budget and making decisions regarding selection, retention, preservation, and deselection of library materials. Academic Library Services utilizes a liaison approach to collection development. Each department and program at East Carolina University is represented by a liaison librarian who is responsible for outreach and communication with the faculty and students of that department/program. The liaison strives to work with the representatives of that department/program to select new materials which support teaching and research, and to decide which materials must be replaced, undergo preservation attention, or be withdrawn. The Interim Associate Director in charge of Collections is Jan Lewis. She may be reached at 252-328-2267 or lewisja@ecu.edu.
